El Calafate

El Calafate

On the shore of the largest lake in Argentina - Lago Argentina, is the town of El Calafate. The town is now home to the main airport for visitors to get to the stunning Parque Nacional Los Glaciers and its most famous attraction, the Perito Moreno Glacier, which is a World Heritage site. This incredible wall of ice and snow is one of South America's greatest natural wonders.

You can visit the glacier by walking the balconies or get really up close on the boat trips and even have a go at walking on the surface! From El Calafate other attractions include Upsala Glacier and Monte Fitz Roy. Most hotels are within the town of El Calafate, the gateway to the stunning glaciers, but there are also some very special options available outside of town.

Visiting the glaciers was a big highlight for me.. I could not believe how blue the glaciers were - an optical illusion apparently, but stunning anyway!
