Pensinula Valdes

Valdes Peninsula

Within the Patagonia region the Valdes Peninsula is one of the most important wildlife reserves in the country and was designated a World Heritage site in 1999. It is the breeding ground for southern right whales, elephant seals, sea lions and the nesting site for thousands of shore birds - including pelicans and cormorants. The whale season runs from May to November with the high season months being September, October and November.

Nearby is the Punta Tombo reserve, which is home to a large penguin colony. Visitors to this area generally fly into Trelew and stay in the town of Puerto Madryn or at the wonderful El Pedral Lodge - a combination stay is also an excellent idea. This is a very special area and we are happy to share our in depth knowledge of the region including the best time to visit and our favourite hotels.

Being so close to the huge southern right whales was magical - this was my favourite part of my whole trip!
