Pacuare lodge

The Pacuare River is one of the top five rafting rivers in the world for its scenery and rapids. Arrival at Pacuare Lodge is via an exciting 1.5 hour river rafting tour with class II-III rapids. The Pacuare Lodge is Costa Rica's premier eco-lodge and ideally located for river rafting, canopy tours and hikes in the rainforest. The lodge employs a resident naturalist guide who will provide you with unique insights into the plant and animal world. There is a great choice of activities here including guided hikes through the emerald rainforest and the chance to meet a shaman. We also recommend the lodges own canopy tour and the waterfall hike.

The cabins are wonderful with some really special ones ideal for honeymooners. Most do not have any electricity supply so they are solely lit by candle light, which only adds to the ambience of the place. The food at the lodge is wonderful and the homemade bread delicious. Departing the lodge is even more exciting with 3.5 hours of grade III-IV rapids, stopping for lunch on the river bank and swimming in and out of the waterfall.

Jaguars

Pacuare Lodge has supported for 2 years and a half  a study of jaguars in the lodge’s 340-hectare (846-acre) nature reserve. Led by Dr. Eduardo Carrillo, Director of the Wildlife Management Program at Costa Rica’s Universidad Nacional and one of Latin America’s top jaguar experts, that research has confirmed that there are jaguars living in the reserve. As a result of the monitoring program on April 2009, one of the cameras captured an image of a jaguar female. In November 2010 Pacuare lodge was able to capture a pregnant jaguar female, this was the first time in Costa Rica that a jaguar has been captured on video.

Pacuare Lodge is the pefect Costa Rica location for those interested in discovering unique wildlife.

Even I rafted into this lodge and have promised to raft out next time. There will be a next time as I loved staying at Pacuare Lodge - a very special, remote lodge, ideal for adventure seekers and honeymooners.
