Cloud Forests in Costa Rica

Cloud Forests

Another diversity of Costa Rica are the Cloud Forest regions. The most popular is Monteverde but a less visited Cloud Forest region is San Gerardo de Dota.

Monteverde is a lush plateau 4,592 feet above the Guanacaste plains. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is extraordinary - a lush mountain habitat formed by a combination of high humidity and low cloud cover from trade winds. Animal life is abundant with more than 1200 species of reptiles and amphibians, 400 types of bird and 100 different mammals. You can walk unguided on the Cloud Forest Trail, join a group guided tour or enjoy a private tour if you wish.

The gorgeous area of San Gerardo de Dota lies in one of the most beautiful regions of Costa Rica. An amazingly stunning habitat for a plethora of bird and flora species, this region is most well known for being the primary habitat for the resplendent Quetzal, Costa Rica's most famous bird. Sitting at an altitude of 2200 meters above sea level, this region offers tourists crisp mountain air, lush cloud forests and some of the best birding in the country, making a truly unforgettable area to visit.
