Devils Nose Railway in Ecuador

Devils Nose Railway

A Chiva is a typical, old-fashioned Latin American bus, with plenty of room on the roof for bags of grain, bananas and the odd chicken. In Quito, these buses have taken on a new lease of life. Typically, someone hires a Chiva for a celebration, invites all their friends to ride on top, the bus drives around the streets of Quito, an oompa-oompa brass band banging out favourite tunes, while Andean canelazo drinks are liberally poured.

Our ground agents have adapted the Chiva idea to the historic train ride from Quito to Cuenca and Guayaquil. Passengers will enjoy an exclusive and unique trip through the Avenue of Volcanoes, the Andean countryside and travel down the Devil's Nose switch back system, one of the most impressive feats of rail engineering in the world.

The Chiva goes through countryside that has no roads, so guests really see local communities not normally seen.
