Agra

Best known for it many splendid Mughal-era buildings, most notably the stunning and never to be forgotten testament to love, the Taj Mahal;  as well as Agra Fort, both of which are World heritage Sites. Agra grew as a city on the banks of the river Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh and achieved fame as the capital of the Mughal Empire from 1556 to 1658, whilst being seat of rule for numerous Murghal Emperors over many generations; the most notable being Shah Jehan.
