Kalimpong

Kalimpong, or 'Land of Kings', lies on a ridge overlooking the Teesta River and is popular because of its temperate climate, magnificent Himalayan vistas and its proximity to popular tourist locations in the region. Horticulture is important and it has a flower market for its cultivated orchids and gladioli, whilst the diverse resources of ginger and education - with the numerous international schools - contribute significantly to the economy. The area is renowned for its noodles, cheese, and lollipops as well as exporting a wide range of traditional handicrafts, wood-carvings, tapestry work, copper ware, embroidered items and religious scrolls. Tibetan jewellery and artefacts are also sought after.
