Ranthambore

The fortress of Ranthambore was founded in 944 by the Nagil Jats and now lies within and overlooks the better known Ranthambore National Park, (the former hunting grounds of the Maharajahs of Jaipur befor Indian independence) but more recently notable for being one of the Project Tiger national parks, home to one of India's most notable and highly endangered predators. Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is known for its tigers and despite frequent poaching of this magnificent animal is still one of the best places in  India to see these majestic predators in the jungle. Tigers can be easily spotted even during the daytime but as their presence can never be guaranteed visitors will still thrill at the hugely varied animal and bird life varieties.
