Wildlife viewing

Jordan is a country of outstanding bio-diversity, and as its people are aware of this importance, great lengths have been made to protect it. Several large nature reserves have been set up and are professionally run in order to minimize negative impact on the natural habitats and the rare species of Jordan's flora and fauna.

Jordan has seven nature reserves with Dana being the most well known for spiny tailed lizard, lesser kestrel and ibex. In addition, Azraq Reserve is a magnet for millions of birds migrating each year with 420 bird species having been identified here. Dana, Mujib, Wadi Rum, the Dead Sea and Azraq are all excellent places for bird watching.

When walking in Petra, look out for the Petra Wall Lizard, who sunbathes on the rocks in the morning light.
