Bird Watching

Bird watching

It's not the number of different variety of birds in Madagascar (just 270 species), it's the fact that of these over 100 are endemic. The bird life you will see in Madagascar is dependent on where you are in the country. The key endemics include some very rare Mesites - the brown mesite in the rainforests, the white breasted mesite found in the Western dry forests and the subdesert mesite in the South's spiny forests.

You may also see any of the ten species of coua's' ground-rollers, sunbird asities or one of the endemic vangas with their great beak variation. Wherever you are in the country excellent guides within the national parks ensure you'll see a wide variety of the endemic birds.

Sailing in the North West of Madagascar whilst staying at the delightful Anjajavy, we were thrilled to see the endangered Malagasy Fish Eagle follow our boat before landing on one of the limestone outcrops.
