Discover Madagascar by road from Antananarivo to reach Tulear on the Mozambique Canal and then heading to the South West Coast of this beautiful Island. The journey requires an adventurous spirit because of the long distances and the roads are sometimes only hard packed earth tracks. Of course those difficulties and unforeseen surprises are easily compensated for by the journey itself through ever-changing landscapes, cultures, handicrafts and the different tribes that live in Madagascar.

Day 1-2: Arrival into Antananarivo / Antsirabe

On arrival into Antananarivo, you will be met and greeted by our agents and transferred to the Pavillon De L’Emyrne for your overnight stay on bed & breakfast. Next day drive to Antsirabe, a thermal city that is surrounded by volcanic massifs. A city tour by ‘pousse-pousse’ is a charming adventure, discovering the town with its leafy boulevards and old colonial buildings. You will visit the Lake of the Tritriva crater, the most famous in Madagascar. Antsirabe is also known for gems and semi-precious stones. Overnight at the Couleur Café’ on bed & breakfast.

Day 3: Antsirabe / Ambositra / Ranomafana

Today you will head to Ambositra, a city known for its wood carving and its numerous small handicraft workshops. Continue to Ranomafana via Ambohimahasoa where you can visit a tropical forest with lemurs. From there you will drive eastwards to Ranomafana where your base will be to explore the National Park of Ranomafana. Overnight at the Setam Lodge on half board.

Day 4: Ranomafana National Park

Explore the park with a special guide to see 12 species of lemurs. Ranomafana is the most important site of lemurs in Madagascar. It is the only confirmed site for the two rarest species. There are also more than 100 birds and various other species of reptiles, lizards and butterflies. Many orchids, steep mountains, dramatic waterfalls and natural hot springs make this endangered and exotic forest charming and unusual. Overnight at the Setam Lodge on half board.

Day 5: Ranomafana / Andringitra

Today you will drive to Andringitra, passing through Fianarantsoa, the centre of the catholic religion. You will visit a wine industry for wine tasting in Ambalavao, the centre of the wine industry. You will also visit the Anteimoro Paper factory, a vestige of the Arabian civilisation on the island. On arrival into Andringitra, you will overnight at the Camp Catta on half board.

Day 6: Andringitra

Today you will have a full day visit of the National Park. Here you have many choices of a wide range of activities, walks and trekking, visiting a typical village en route. Overnight at the Camp Catta on half board.

Day 7: Andringitra / Isalo

After breakfast continue to Isalo (Ranohira) with a picnic lunch you will cross the high plateau of Horombe which offers a very peculiar landscape, characterized by its solid mass of sandstone, its vertical walked gorges, canyons and its endemic flora. You will stop at the private reserve of Ianja, where you can also visit traditional tombs. The remainder of the day will be at leisure in Isalo, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere in this area. Be on time at the ‘window of Isalo’ for the romantic sunset’s show, which will not leave you unmoved. Overnight at the Jardin Du Roy on half board.

Day 8: Isalo National Park

Full day visit of Isalo National Park.The park is known for its wide variety of terrain, including sandstone formations, deep canyons, palm-lined oasis, and grassland. The closest town is Ranohira, where you will commence your trekking to discover this beautiful park. There is an opportunity to take a dip in a natural pool of crystal waters after a rewarding day. Overnight at Jardin Du Roy on half board.

Day 9: Isalo / Tulear

After breakfast you will drive to Tuléar. This brings you to new scenery, among the dry forest of the west and the spiny desert of the south. On arrival in Tulear overnight at the Paille en Queue on bed & breakfast.

Day 10: Tulear / Antananarivo

Transfer to the airport to fly back to Antananarivo for your return flight home.
