Nosy Be in Madagascar

Nosy Be

The name Nosy Be actually means big island and is pronounced Nosy Bay. Of all Madagascar, Nosy Be was the original tourist resort. Whilst it can be more commercial and touristy than other parts of the country, for travellers looking to experience Madagascar with 'softer edges', Nosy Be offers a taste of everything that makes this country special; wonderful beaches, lemurs, chameleons and excellent food.

There are also several islands surrounding Nosy Be which offer barefoot luxury. Nosy Be was traditionally referred to as the 'Isle de Parfum' - the perfume island as it was, and still is, the source for many fragrances including Ylang-ylang, vanilla and pepper.

Eden Lodge

Eden Lodge embodies a new concept for luxury accommodation in Madagascar. Enjoy pure luxury without pretence and without damaging the fragile environment in a push towards sustainable development. The real luxury of Eden Lodge is simply being there, residing in comfort whilst immersed in the diverse and untouched lush natural habitat of Madagascar.

Only half an hour from the island of Nosy Be, the stretch known as Baobab Beach is unique and the view as you arrive by boat, breathtaking: a beach of pure white sands, bordered by lush virgin forest and dotted with majestic baobab trees, hundreds of years old.

Tsarabanjina

Located 40 miles north of Nosy Be, the beautiful resort of Tsarabanjina is surrounded by tropical vegetation and bordered by stunning white sandy beaches fringed by coral reef. The thatched roof bungalows are built from indigenous precious timber and have excellent facilities with ceiling mounted fans, terrace with lounge chairs and an ocean view.

Nosy Iranja Hotel

Situated 30 miles on the south coast of Nosy Be, Nosy Iranja is divided into two islands which are linked by a path of white sand submerged at high tide.  A charming hotel on the edge of crystal clear water of the Indian Ocean, the rooms are built using wood and natural materials and is surrounded by tropical gardens.

The accommodation is chalet type – round rooms and all within their own space and quite private, no air conditioning but each room has a ceiling fan.   There is plenty of water sports available including diving, snorkelling, paragliding etc.,  The food is served buffet style and a mixture of Malagasy and international cuisine.   It can be a 10/15 minute walk from your room to the restaurant depending where you are situated within the hotel.

Plenty of wildlife and turtles come onto the beach to lay their eggs.  If you put your name down at reception they will wake you if a turtle comes onto the beach during the night.
