After my adventures in the remote lodges of the Pantanal I headed to the busy & hot city of Salvador, the capital of Bahia state. In fact Salvador was the 1st capital of Brazil back in 1549 to 1763, the birthplace of a nation & now the 3rd largest city in Brazil. Due to its history with the slave trade today Salvador is the most African city in the Western Hemisphere. Samba started here & the city has the largest carnival in the world.

I loved Salvador & will go back again to spend more time there to enjoy the shops, restaurants etc. It is a colourful city & for me the highlight was the Historical part – Pelourinho section. Here I visited some wonderful boutique Hotels, my particular favourites were Villa Bahia, Solar dos Deuses & Casa do Amarelindo. As I visited them I was sure that so many of my clients would really enjoy staying there. I unfortunately stayed @ 2 of the larger more international hotels- very comfortable but did not have the atmosphere of these small boutique hotels.

I have been to Brazil twice before, visiting the iconic places we associate with Brazil-Rio de Janeiro & IguassuFalls. Plus on another trip I headed to Minas Gerais for the old mines & colonial history.
So this trip was to focus on the wonderful nature & wildlife found in the wetlands of the Pantanal, then to head to the Bahia region to visit Salvador before finishing the trip seeing the beaches @ Praia do Forte & some beautiful beachfront eco resorts.
So 1st stop the North Pantanal region, found in the Motto Grosso region.
